Beautiful beaches With over 400 kilometres of coastline, Abu Dhabi is one great place for all the fun in the sun. Well-maintained beaches and resorts are equipped with all modern leisure facilities. Close to the city is Al Raha Beach on the Abu Dhabi – Dubai Road, and the fascinating Abu Dhabi Beach is right on the Corniche at the heart of the city.

 

Adrenaline trips Abu Dhabi offers the perfect setting for off-road adventure sports like dune bashing and sand skiing, with its vast stretch of desert and challenging sand dunes. Rub Al- Khali (Empty Quarters) is  an awe-inspiring expanse of desert extending through Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Oman. Liwa on the south of Abu Dhabi is one of the most preferred destinations for off-road thrills.

 

Equestrian sports The horse has always been an integral part of Arabian life. Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club located at Mushrif offers the finest facilities for equestrian events for all skill levels. Apart from the highly acclaimed races, there is also an annual Endurance Race covering 160 kms.

 

Golf and other sports Abu Dhabi offers first class golf facilities all the year round and has been attracting enthusiasts of the game from all over the world. Golf courses are either grass or sand and complete with every modern amenity conceivable. Football is a passion and other popular sports include tennis, cricket and rugby, and indoor sports such as billiards and bowling. Water sports are a major attraction, thanks to the rich maritime tradition. Jet skiing, surfing and powerboat racing are especially popular.

 

Formula 1 Abu Dhabi will be hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix from the 2009 season. The 5.6 kms circuit is being built on Yas Island and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is slated to be the premier event in the region.

 

Food A truly wide choice of cuisine is available for the gourmand. The city’s multicultural mix ensures a number of restaurants and cafes that cater to every taste from Tex-Mex to Far Eastern.

 

Falconry The royal sport is part of the valued tradition in the UAE and Abu Dhabi is in the forefront of preserving this heritage. Falconry is believed to have come to the region from Byzantine and Persia.

 

Bedouin lifestyle Visitors can have a fascinating insight into the early lifestyles of the nomadic tribes or bedouins at the Bedouin Village located on the Mussafah Road behind Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre. It is open for visitors 8 am to 5 pm on all days and admission is free.
